my local camera club ...
For over two years now I have been a member of Bangor and North Down Camera Club located in the seaside town of Bangor, Co Down, Northern Ireland. The Club House at Kingsland, Seacliffe Road, is shown in the photograph below.
Although I have been a keen amateur for many years, I have been reticent to join a camera club on the mistaken perception that they were attended by a group of people who had a tendency to form cliques and be protective of their techniques. Nothing could have been further from the truth.
Immediately upon attending on the first formal Friday evening meeting in September 2006, I was personally welcomed and not ignored as I had perceive. I was very quickly assimilated into the activities of the club and have actively attended and participated ever since.
The kindly constructive appraisal of my photographic work together with observation of other's work has spurred me onwards and upwards. Of particular note was my introduction to Digital Audio Visual techniques. At last, here was an outlet for the many digital photographs being accumulated on my hard disks.
I would whole heartedly recommend joining a local Camera Club to anyone with an interest in photography. With the greater emphasis on Digital over Film, those entering the hobby will have some point of focus for their hobby as well as a great social group which welcomes spouses and partners.
